Modern Farmhouse Style Kitchen Remodel

Contrasting soft white and dark gray cabinets bring this Cordova Park kitchen to life

Floating Shelves and Craftsman-inspired Cabinets Create a Modern Farmhouse Look

Jackie and Jeff came to our designers at Cabinet Depot looking to add some much-needed pizzazz to their Cordova Park kitchen. While the old kitchen’s pure white cabinets and countertops kept the space bright, they lacked the personality and excitement the Pensacola couple wanted in this functional hub of the house.

To add visual energy while keeping a light feeling in the remodel, larger wall cabinets and drawers below the oven are done in Alabaster, a gorgeous, soft white painted finish. Simple, modern doors from Kabinart’s Arts & Crafts line and dramatically high crown molding adds subtle character without overwhelming the space. A traditional white subway tile backsplash keeps the color palette simple while adding geometric texture between the upper and lower cabinets.

For the lower cabinetry and island, we selected Kabinart’s Atlantic finish. This rich yet understated gray provides the perfect backdrop for eye-catching pops of bright red from counter stools, accessories and cookware. To visually unite the upper and lower cabinet finishes, we used Cambria Summerhill quartz countertops with a marbled pattern of soft white, gray and black elements.

To incorporate additional contrast, we installed farmhouse-style floating shelves in Fawn, a finish reminiscent of stained cherrywood. These shelves serve as functional storage as well as a design focal point above the bar. This natural color is mirrored in the Wilsonart Old Mill Oak laminate countertop used in the bar area occupying the wall between the kitchen and living areas.

Since this kitchen sees a lot of activity, we incorporated functional pieces that keep floor space open while adding livability. A seat-height drawer by the kitchen door sits in a niche adorned with coat hooks, creating the perfect spot to remove and store shoes and outerwear. Kitchen scraps and recyclables are kept out of sight with a double pull out trash can kit from Richelieu Hardware.

For a finishing touch, we added simple curved bar door and drawer handles with square feet in a satin nickel finish from Hardware Resources Merrick Series. This touch of metallic shine plays beautifully against both the Alabaster and Atlantic cabinet finishes.

Notes from the Designer

“I absolutely love all of the different colors in this kitchen. The dark gray bases and the soft white wall cabinets really go well together. The countertops just sparkle and really bring the two cabinet colors together nicely.” ~ Casey Curley
