Name: Brendan Wilkes

Title at Cabinet Depot: “Owner, General Manager, Designer”

Years in the business: “I’ve been working in the cabinet industry since 1998”

Past jobs: “I’ve had quite a few jobs over the years, including fish fillet-er, tire changer, pizza dude and waiter. I also worked as a home inspector, so I am very familiar with construction techniques and know the right way to tackle complicated remodeling projects.”

Where do you live? “I currently live with my wife and kids in Pace, but I am originally from Perry, FL. I moved to the Pensacola area in 1987.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at Cabinet Depot? “Solving difficult design problems. I love finding the perfect solution for an unusual space, working in all the needed functions and making it look great.”

How do your co-workers describe you? “OCD, ADD, ADHD… Really, I’m just super dedicated, detail oriented, and willing to help wherever I can.”

What’s are your favorite current trends in cabinet design? “European cabinets with a transitional look, accented with an island that looks like it was in a fire… The contrast of fine workmanship with a distressed finish is just fantastic. I also really enjoy the recent trend towards stacked cabinetry that takes advantage of higher modern ceilings. We’ve had quite a few customers ask us to incorporate repurposed wood and antique furniture into our designs lately as well.”

What’s the most unusual job you’ve been asked to design? “Custom cabinets for an Airstream RV. It was a real challenge fitting everything they needed into that tight space.”

What’s your favorite food? “Sushi and Hibachi.”

Favorite color?Hunter Green”

What’s your favorite local charity?Gulf Coast Kids House. They do a lot of great work for our community.”

Mandy Wilkes joined her husband, Brendan, at the head of the Cabinet Depot family in 2012. She prides herself on being the “cheerleader” of the squad, and believes whole-heartedly in the power of making work enjoyable.

Where do you live? “I grew up in Alabama, but we currently live in Pace. Brendan and I moved there from Pensacola in November of 2015.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at Cabinet Depot? “First and foremost, my co-workers. They make coming to work each day so much fun! Secondly, our customers. I try to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. We usually have a good time with the customers while they are here. After all, nobody wants to buy cabinets from some grumpy salesperson!”

What current trends in cabinets do you like?  “I really like the transitional styles and monochromatic looks that our manufacturers have been producing. Personally, I like very clean lines, but not too modern where it gets boring or sterile looking. I enjoy designing living spaces that are comfortable, happy, and clean. For colors, I am currently in love with grays, whites and gold finishes.”

What is your favorite food? “I love Sushi, Thai and Mexican. I should own stock in salsa!”

What is your favorite non-profit in Pensacola? “The Pensacola Humane Society. They throw baby showers for kittens!”

Lindsay Dunn joined the Cabinet Depot team in 2014, and has become an integral part of our workplace family. Here are just a few reasons why she is one of our favorite people on the planet:

How long have you lived in Pensacola? “My whole life! I currently live in Downtown Pensacola, and I love seeing the amazing transformations that have taken place there over the last few years.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at Cabinet Depot? “The fun, creative atmosphere. I get to work with great people every day and create custom cabinet designs that make people happy!”

How do your co-workers describe you? “Thorough, patient, and attentive. I really focus on attention to detail, and I like to keep everything well organized. Did I mention I’m thorough?”

Recent job you really enjoyed designing: “My favorite job I have recently worked on would have to be a kitchen remodel in East Hill. There was not much of the original kitchen we kept, but the customer wanted to maintain the home’s original look and feel. The customer went through a lot of trouble to select authentic details. She cleaned and preserved the original brick flooring, located just the right antique light, and salvaged stained glass from local houses that were being torn down.”

“When it came time to create the custom cabinet designs, we went with a simple, clean, white shaker style from Kabinart. We placed floor-to-ceiling pantries on one side of the kitchen and only base cabinets on the opposite side with an assortment of cup pulls and knobs. She hung open shelving and a pot rack on the wall above the base cabinet to keep an airy feeling.”

“The look was completed with a porcelain coated, cast-iron Kohler farmhouse sink and Fantasy Brown Dolomite countertops from Superior Granite. Everything was accented with a white subway tile backsplash. I really love how the entire project came together!”

What is your favorite food? “Anything Buffalo!”

What are some of your hobbies? “Trying to finish my own home renovation projects, camping and riding bikes in our beautiful city.”

If you’re in the neighborhood, please stop in and see Lindsay and the rest of our Cabinet Depot team. They are always happy to talk about custom cabinet designs and guide customers through the showroom. Bring your toughest cabinet dilemmas and put us to the test, we love that kind of stuff!

Casey Curley joined our team in 2014, and now we can’t imagine Cabinet Depot without her. Here are some important facts and quotes that will give you an idea of why we love her so much.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Cabinet Depot: “We’re all a family, we look out for one another. Cabinet Depot really is an amazing company to work for.”

How do your coworkers describe you? “THE BULL – I’m a go-getter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a true people person, I love people. Talking with them, interacting with them, getting to know them. But when it’s time to get things done, I don’t let much stand in my way.”

What are your personal favorite styles to work with? “Essex or Oxford for door style, Fawn on Cherry for color. I am not a big fan of glazes. I can work with them, I just think that natural wood is so beautiful.”

Recent job you really enjoyed designing: “I recently put together a design for a kitchen using Boulder (a grey stain) on oak cabinets in the Arts & Crafts style. The customer had our general contractor come in, tear down the old soffits and light boxes, and took the cabinets all the way to the ceiling. It turned out breathtaking, so fresh and clean. We accented the design with what I call steam punk hardware – they have an industrial pipe look to them. Topped off with tan and brown granite countertops, I just loved the overall look.”

What do you do outside of work? “I enjoy playing volleyball and softball on our incredible beaches. Spending time with my friends and family is really important to me, and I’m also a proud momma to a fur baby, my cat Willow.”

Favorite local charity: “The Pensacola Humane Society. They really make a big difference in our community.”

Be sure to stop in a say hello to Casey when visiting our showroom. We think you’ll agree she is a pretty awesome part of the Cabinet Depot family. Spend a little time with her, and she’ll quickly become one of your favorite Cabinet Designers, too.
